PRIMAVERA EN LA AVENIDA

 

De nuevo un súbito rumor baja

por la avenida;

los alegres gorriones lo oyen

y gorjean que es verdad.

 

El gorjeo revela todo el secreto

a cada muchacho y cada muchacha-

a toda la gente que pulula por allí,

que la primavera se ha hecho realidad.

 

Y sin embargo, en la bulliciosa multitud,

¿alguien ha advertido

que el romance va por la calle

con abril a su lado?

SPRING ON THE AVENUE

 

Again a sudden rumor comes

along the avenue;

the merry sparrows hear it there

and twitter it is a true.

 

The twitter all the secret out

to every lad and lass-

to all the people swarming by,

that spring has come to pass.

 

And yet, of all the teeming crowds,

has anybody spied

romance is tripping down the street

with april at its side?
