¡ETERNIDAD! (para Kenneth Koch)

 

en el extremo de todo cigarrillo encendido hay por supuesto

una suave, pequeña y brillante luz que significa

¡esperanza! ¡eternidad! de modo que cuando fumas

no te estás matando

te preparas para

el cielo donde los ángeles amorosos

como cigarrillos de lavanda tienen suaves alas de ceniza

o para el infierno donde un bosque de cigarrillos encendidos provoca

una explosión maravillosa en la que como mínimo estás involucrado.

ETERNITY! (for Kenneth Koch)

 

at the end of every cigarette that burns there is of course

a soft little bright light which means

hope! eternity! so you are not

killing yourself when you

smoke you are preparing for

heaven where the loving lavender

cigarette angels have soft ash wings

or for hell where a flaming cigarette forest makes

a marvelous explosion in which at least you are involved.
