I

Construí de humo mi casa

Y la poblé con fuego

Porque debe haber fuego

En el fuego la casa

En la casa el humo

En el humo yo

 

 

II

Él no confiaba en ladrillos y argamasa

Pero la chimenea arrojaba humo

Bajo la chimenea ronroneaban palomas

Bajo la chimenea el graznido del cuervo

Ilusión, gritaba la lejana máquina

Ilusión, exclamó él, y despertó

 

 

 

III

Esta carne tan sólida podría convertirse en piedra

Y sobre esa piedra podría levantarse un edificio

El resto es humo y espejos, humo y energía 

 

 

 

IV

Esos son tus cimientos

Ahí es donde empezaste

No busques significados

No busques finales

Empieza aquí. Prepara el fuego

I built my house of smoke

And peopled it with fire

Because there must be fire

Within the fire the house

Within the house the smoke

Within the smoke myself

He did not trust in bricks and mortar

But the chimney spouted smoke

Down the chimney pigeons purring

Down the chimney raven’s croak

Illusion, cried the distant engine

Illusion, he exclaimed, and woke

This too too solid flesh might turn to stone

And on that stone a building might be raised

The rest is smoke and mirrors, smoke and gone

These are your foundations

That is where you begin

Do not look for meanings

Do not look for endings
