El final del verano da paso al otoño:
las cercas están salpicadas
de crisantemos.
Oro y bermellón
la tarde.
Yo espero aquí, soñando con bermellones atardeceres:
mi corazón tiene algo de miedo a la fría lluvia del otoño.

Cierra el puño
como una serpiente enroscada;
alzándose en espiral, se prepara para asomar la cabeza
por encima de la larga hierba de la llanura.

Chrysanthemums are scattered
Behind the palings.
Gold and vermilion
The afternoon.
I wait here dreaming of vermilion sunsets:
In my heart is a half fear of the chill autumn rain.

He sneers for he is bold.
He clinches his fist
Like a twisted snake;
Coiling itself, preparing to raise its head,
Above the long grasses of the plain.
