El Lirio Salvaje

.
Al final de mi sufrimiento
había una puerta.

Escúchame bien: aquello que llamas muerte
lo recuerdo.

Ruidos allá arriba, ramas de pino cambiando
de lugar.
Y luego nada. El sol pálido parpadeó
sobre la superficie seca.

Es terrible tener que sobrevivir
como conciencia
sepultada en la tierra oscura.

Luego había terminado: aquello que llamas temor,
ser un alma incapaz
de hablar, terminando abruptamente,
la tierra tiesa doblándose un poco. Y
lo que tomé por aves apresurándose
entre los arbustos bajos.

A ti que no recuerdas
la travesía desde el otro mundo
te digo que podría hablar de nuevo:

lo que sea que retorna del olvido
retorna para hallar una voz:

desde el centro de mi vida
vino una gran fuente, hondas sombras
azules sobre el azur agua marina.

The Wild Iris

.
At the end of my suffering
there was a door.

Hear me out: that which you call death
I remember.

Overhead, noises, branches of the pine shifting.
Then nothing. The weak sun
flickered over the dry surface.

It is terrible to survive
as consciousness
buried in the dark earth.

Then it was over: that which you fear, being
a soul and unable
to speak, ending abruptly, the stiff earth
bending a little. And what I took to be
birds darting in low shrubs.

You who do not remember
passage from the other world
I tell you I could speak again: whatever
returns from oblivion returns
to find a voice:

from the center of my life came
a great fountain, deep blue
shadows on azure seawater.
