Un bibliotecario de referencias te entrega el tomo
de tus sueños, y te inclinas sobre
los borrosos garabatos. La proximidad debería ser
magos, dices en voz muy baja. Comienzas
a traducirlo concienzudamente, pero no puedo dejar de mirar
el fresco del techo. Está cubierto
de ángeles estudiosos y un cielo azul. Quiero
flotar hasta allí y contemplarte mientras pasas las páginas
con la mayor delicadeza posible.

A reference librarian hands you the tome
of your dreams, and you hunch over
the fading scribbles. Proximity must be
a factor in understanding. This is about two
magicians, you say, in a hushed tone. You begin
your careful translation, but I can't stop staring
at the fresco of the ceiling. It's crowded
with angel-scholars and blue sky. I want to
float up there and watch you turn pages
with the gentlest possible hands.
