HALCÓN

 

Incapaz de traicionar: un árbol.

 

Incapaz de guardar un secreto: una piedra.

 

Sin desprecio hacia sí mismo u otro:

una hormiga, una abeja.

 

Hoy, yo y el pájaro sin capucha

posado en mi cabeza

miramos en distintas direcciones,

yo hacia el borroso pasado, él hacia el borroso futuro.

 

Cuántos pasados y futuros

entre y en torno a nosotros, nos perdemos.

 

Sin obligación: mosquitos.

 

¿Cuán cerca debe estar del humano

el aire que se aspira

antes de desarrollar un sentido de la vergüenza o del humor?

 

Cada día el halcón ve las cosas un poco más claras.

Incapable of holding a secret: a stone.

 

Without contempt for self or other:

an ant, a bee.

 

Today I and the unhooded bird

that sits on my head

are looking in different directions,

I into the blurring past, he into the blurring future.

 

How many other pasts and futures

between and around us, we miss.

 

Incapable of ungenerosity: grass.

 

Without obligation: mosquitoes.

 

How close to human

must the breathed-in air come

before it develops a sense of shame or humor?

 

Each day the falcon’s view a little clearer.
