Un árbol antiguo

 

“No puedo librarme de
esta melodía”,

no puedo sacar este árbol
de

mis entrañas.
Ni quiero hacerlo:

la forma en la que
levanta sus brazos,
los abre, y

-pacientemente tal como un
caballo anciano es paciente-
los cruza, en lo alto,

para doblarlos y cruzar de nuevo:

su postura, su condición de
arraigado, su expresión
como de anhelo.
En cada bifurcación,
la decisión sufrida, las ramas
abriéndose caminos en el aire.

Alzo la mirada
por la ventana de la cocina;
la palabra de árbol,
aún permanece en el aire,
sobre el muro de piedra.

Mañanas de otoño, entre su corona
de ramitas levemente enderezadas,
unas manzanas
amarillas en la niebla plateada.

Sędziwe drzewo

 

«Nie mogę pozbyć się z głowy
tej melodii»,

Nie mogę pozbyć się
z mojego wnętrza

tego drzewa i nie pragnę tego:
sposób w jaki
podnosząc w górę ramiona
otwiera je i –

cierpliwie jak
cierpliwy stary koń –
krzyżuje ramiona w górze
zginając i zaplatając je na nowo:

jego postawa, zakorzeniony
byt, wygląd jakby z czymś tęskniło.
Na każdym rozwidleniu
cierpliwy wybór, gałęzie
torujące sobie drogę w powietrzu.

Spoglądam w górę
przez kuchenne okno;
drzewne słowo
zostało już wypowiedziane
nad kamiennym murem.

W jesienne ranki
wśród nastroszonej
korony gałązek
jabłka
żółte w srebrnej mgle

An Ancient Tree

 

`Can’t get that tune
out of my head,’

can’t get that tree
out of

some place in me.
And don’t want to:

the way it
lifts up its arms,
opens them, and

—patient the way an
elderly horse is patient—
crosses them, aloft,

to curve and recross:

the standing, the being
rooted, the look
as of longing.
At each divide,
the choice endured, branches
taking their roads in air.

Glance up
from the kitchen window;
that tree word,
still being said,
over the stone wall.

Fall mornings, its head of twigs
vaguely lifted,
a few apples
yellow in silver fog.
