PLEGARIA

 

Oh, Dios, hazme incapaz de rezar,

Demasiado valiente para suplicar, demasiado segura

Para sentir la burla del peligro. Deja que mi corazón

Sea lo bastante fuerte para resistir el dolor,

Y hazme sufrir aislada, sin pérdida.

Ahora déjame cargar sola el envejecido mundo

Sobre hombros más firmes que los del gigante Atlas.

Hazme simbólicamente iconoclasta,

El Anticristo ideal, la Paradoja.

PRAYER

 

Oh God, make me incapable of prayer,

Too brave for supplication, too secure

To feel the taunt of danger. Let my heart

Be tightened mightily to withstand pain,

And make me suffer singly, without loss.

Now let me bear alone the ageing world

On firmer shoulders than the giant Atlas.

Make me symbolically iconoclast,
