TRES TANKAS

 

El agua de la tetera está hirviendo.

Déjame acercar al hogar

este ciruelo enano en su maceta—

para contemplar el vapor

resbalar y arremolinarse entre sus ramas.

En alta mar

la sirena de un vapor sonaba

tan lejana y durante tanto tiempo—

su vago eco, errante en la oscuridad,

ha alcanzado esta orilla por encima de las olas.

Los ciruelos

tras una tormenta en un valle de montaña.

¡El aire es tan transparente!

Veo muy alto en el cielo

un halcón volar sobre mi cabeza.

The tea pot is boiling.

Let me move closer to the hearth

this dwarf plum tree in a pot —

to watch the steam

flowing and swirling among the branches

In the high seas

the siren of a steam-ship sounded

so distant and so long—

its vague echo, wandering in the darkness,

has reached this shore over the waves...

The plum trees

after a storm in a mountain valley.

The air is so transparent!

I see high in the sky

a falcon soaring over my head...
