NATIVIDAD
Estaba tendida en el sofá
cuyos duros almohadones
aplastaba en el rincón
que encontró allí.
En la heladera
no quedaba nada para comer,
la puerta entreabierta
estaba cubierta de hielo,
un frío fibroso
se colaba en la habitación.
Sólo hielo y unos puñados de granos de maíz
amontonados en un rincón
como paja rancia y amarilla,
y una botellita de leche
que había dejado la familia de kosovares
que había ocupado la casa antes que ella.
Había oído que les habían permitido quedarse.
El pequeño John Harris Farruku
hermano de Adriatuk, Flutura y Etmir,
nacido el tercer día de la amnistía.
Su nacimiento había permitido
a la familia empezar de nuevo
dándole la esperanza
de una vida normal.

She lay on the sofa
its hard cushions
squashed down into the corner
under the heavy paisley quilt
she'd found there.
There was nothing
left to eat in the fridge,
its door nudged open
swollen with ice,
the fibrous cold
stealing into the room.
Just ice and knots of sweetcorn
heaped in a corner
like rancid yellow straw,
and a bottle of baby milk
left by the Kosovan family
housed there before her.
She'd heard the'd beel allowed to stay.

brother to Adriatuk, Flutura and Etmir,
born three day inside the amnesty.
His birth had allowed
the family to begin again
given them the hope
of an ordinary life.
